SHIP (Student Health Insurance Plan) Eligibility Information

The 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ is committed to the health and well-being of our students. Students must have comprehensive health insurance while attending school.

All students defined below are eligible for SHIP (Student Health Insurance Plan).ÌýYour student account is automatically billed every Fall and Spring. To remove the charges, eligible students in the fall must submit the online waiver to show proof of a comprehensive health insuranceÌýBEFORE THE START OF EACH NEW ACADEMIC YEAR IN THE FALL.ÌýSpring waiver is for newly eligible students only. Newly eligible students in Spring must submit the spring waiver then resubmit annually in fall. Approved annual waivers are valid for the entire academic year.

Health Insurance Waiver Requirements:

Your health insurance plan must meet or exceed ALL of the following criteria in order to qualify for a waiver.

All degree-seeking international students MUST enroll in SHIP unless they are sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) or covered by an employer sponsored plan in the United States.

  • All plans must have unrestricted access to in-network local doctors, inpatient and outpatient hospitals, pharmacies, specialists, behavioral health professionals, lab work, diagnostic x-rays, and other health care providers in emergency and non-emergency situations within your campus area or place of residence while attending school
  • No dollar maximum limit for medical benefits
  • Coverage for the entire academic year
  • Must be a U.S. based insurance company
  • Must have medical evacuation of $50,000 and repatriation of remains of $25,000 (additional requirement for International Students)

The following are NOT acceptable and will NOT be considered:

  • California Medi-Cal and state Medicaid plans that do NOT have assigned benefit coverage in your campus area
  • International insurance plans underwritten in a country outside of the United States
  • Short term medical plans that are available to purchase on a weekly or monthly basis
  • Reimbursement plans
  • Ministry cost-sharing

2024-2025 Cost and Coverage Dates

Annual SHIP fees are charged to your student account each Fall and Spring semesters along with your registration fees. Fall and Spring terms provide six months of coverage each. You will be required to pay these fees unless you have an approved waiver each academic year.

The rates include premiums for the plan and commissions and administrative fees. Rates are currently under regulatory review with the state and subject to change.

  • Physician Assistant, MS Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Master in Social Work
    • Annual coverage - July 1st - June 30th the following year
    • Fall - July 1st - December 31st (students graduating in Fall)
    • Spring - January 1st - June 30 (new cohorts)
    • Cost: $1,715 per Fall and Spring ($3,430 annual)
  • Law

With SHIP, students receive Dental and Vision benefits at no additional cost. 

SHIP comes with dental benefits at no additional cost. $1,000 annual benefit maximum covers periodic oral exam (2 per 12 months), teeth cleaning (2 per 12 months), bitewing x-rays (1 set per 12 months) at 100%. With Blue View Vision, Anthem makes it easier and more affordable for students to take care of their eyes and help catch health issues earlier. Benefits include $15 copay for eye exams per year, $130 allowance for frames and contact lenses per year. For questions, call Anthem at 800-888.2108.

VOLUNTARY PLANS

Enroll at anytime in the month to month plan thru Ameritas Dental PPO for $36.09 per month with maximum yearly benefit of $1,000. It covers dental exams and cleaning at 100% and basic services that include fillings, x-rays, oral surgery and simple extractions at 60-80% (coverage varies by state).    Please note, there is a waiting period of 1 year to re-enroll in the plan after cancellation. If you have questions, please call the Ameritas/ACI Customer Service Line at 855-672-3232 or email enrollmentservices@visit-aci.com.

Vision health is important to your educational success. Our voluntary vision insurance plan makes it easier and more affordable to get eye care. Plans cover exams, and up to $130 for frames and contacts for $10.98 per month.  Annual commitment required (coverage not available in the following states: MA, MD, MT, NM, NY, RI, WA, PA (Forest, Huntingdon, Montour and Sullivan counties). If you have questions, please call the Ameritas/ACI Customer Service Line at 855.672.3232 or email enrollmentservices@visit-aci.com.

Your insurance card is available online anytime. Below are ways on how to get your electronic insurance card. To request for a physical card in the mail, kindly call Anthem directly at 800.888.2108.

If you have moved but did not update your mailing address, any mailings you receive from Anthem Blue Cross will be sent to the "Mailing/Current Address" on file. To verify or change your address, log in to your account at .

If you are enrolled in the Anthem Blue Cross PPO, Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and are graduating, you have 45 days from the termination of the plan to enroll in the continuation plan with Anthem for either 3 or 6 months. If you enroll in only 3 months and decide later you would like 6 you will not be able to do so, so make your enrollment decision carefully.
