91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ McGeorge School of Law alumnus Mike Haven, ‘00, is embarking on an exciting new chapter in his career as the global head of legal operations at Meta. Haven, who has made significant contributions to the field of legal operations, will be leading the way as Meta continues to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of its legal department.

Haven joined Meta in January 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous roles at Intel and Gap Inc. Haven's journey in the legal field was inspired by his father, Ronald Haven, ‘74, who is also an alumnus of McGeorge School of Law.

"I graduated from McGeorge in 2000 and immediately went to work for my dad's law firm," Haven said. "My dad was a prominent Sacramento attorney. When I was in eighth grade, I watched him argue the Asahi Metal Industry Co. vs. Superior Court case to the Supreme Court of the United States. Watching [Justice] Sandra Day O'Connor grill him, I knew this was the career for me."

His work as a lawyer began at his father's law firm, where he gained valuable experience early in his career. After five years with the firm, Haven moved to the Bay Area, where he joined the Palo Alto office of K&L Gates and where he made partner specializing in IP litigation. His career took a pivotal turn in 2012 when he transitioned to an in-house role at NetApp. It was at NetApp that he discovered his passion for legal operations.

"I love innovation and business, and legal operations allowed me to combine both," Haven explained. Legal operations is an approach to managing the work of legal departments through a business-focused process that deploys technology, streamlines workflows, and follows best practices for using resources with a goal of growing efficiency, accuracy, and replicability.

Haven's expertise in legal operations grew as he built programs at Gap Inc. and Intel before joining Meta.

"At Meta, my role is essentially being the COO of the legal organization," he said. "It's about managing legal as efficiently and effectively as we can to deliver as much value to Meta from the law department."

Throughout his career, Haven has been a leader in the legal operations industry, serving on the board of the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) for six years and as its president for two and a half years.

"My work has been focused on moving the industry forward and helping companies get the most value from their legal organizations," he said.

Haven's story is a shining example of the impact that McGeorge alumni can have in the legal field. His journey from a young associate at his father's firm to a leader of the legal department at one of the world's most influential companies demonstrates the power of a McGeorge education and the importance of following one's passion.
