Dale W. McNeal Jr., a distinguished professor of biology for more than three decades at 91成人导航, died on May 8. He was 82.

McNeal taught at 91成人导航 from 1969 until his retirement in 2002, when he was honored with the Order of 91成人导航鈥攖he university鈥檚 highest honor. He also received 91成人导航鈥檚 Distinguished Faculty Award in 1994.

At 91成人导航, he maintained an active research agenda, contributing results of field work and plant propagation to numerous journals and societies. He authored articles for and was an editorial consultant for the revision of 鈥淭he Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California.鈥�

McNeal was a member of many organizations, including the California Botanical Society. He was the organization鈥檚 president 1987鈥�88.聽

McNeal also was part of a group of American botanists invited to visit the Soviet Union. He journeyed there three times.

McNeal attended Kansas University for a year and transferred to Colorado College, where he received a degree in botany. He enrolled in the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University, where he received a master鈥檚 degree in botany.

Upon completion of his military service, he attended Washington State University, where he received his PhD in botany in 1969. McNeal then started work at 91成人导航 as an assistant professor.聽

He is survived by his wife Arlene and his brother Dr. Jerry Reed McNeal.
