Faculty and staff recognized for decades of service

Faculty and staff celebrated milestone work anniversaries at the annual years of service luncheon held on Knoles Lawn. 听(May 1, 2024)

Working in the mailroom at 91成人导航 is a labor of love for Joy Hart鈥攕o much so that she has done it for 45 years.

鈥淚 love my job and I love the people,鈥 Hart said. 鈥淭hey all are so special.鈥

Hart was one of two employees with 45 years honored at luncheons on the Stockton (May 1) and Sacramento campuses (April 25). The San Francisco Campus will have a years of service celebration on June 18.

The annual events honor milestone work anniversaries for faculty and staff in increments of five years. Recipients of the annual Cavanaugh, Staff Champion of DEI and Podesto awards also were announced.

Joy Hart was recognized for 45 years of service at 91成人导航

Hart was surrounded by colleagues at the Stockton luncheon. Lynne Madewell, mailroom manager for the Stockton and Sacramento campuses, shared her praise.

鈥淪imply put, she is her name. Joy is a joy,鈥 Madewell said. 鈥淪he shares her warmth every day on the job.鈥

Hart has a unique job in the mailroom. She manages the shredding.

鈥淲e cannot keep up with her,鈥 Madewell laughed. 鈥淪he just powers right through things. She is one of the hardest workers I have ever been around.鈥

Joseph Alward of College of the 91成人导航 is the other 91成人导航 employee honored for 45 years.

Alward, whose academic specialty is solid-state physics, teaches more than 200 students each year in the introductory physics sequence and physics for non-majors. Students consistently praise Alward for his commitment to their academic success.

He is known for providing an encouraging, supportive environment that fosters positive student outcomes.

40 years of service

Bonnie O鈥橦earn, Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy

According to colleagues, O鈥橦earn is 鈥渋ndispensable鈥 to the work of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.听She has worked with numerous department chairs and faculty.

She acts quickly and proficiently in helping faculty navigate budget allocation and day-to-day management issues.

Mary Nevis, 91成人导航 Technology

Nevis began her 91成人导航 career as a secretary in the Pharmacy School. The department started with one Apple computer. She joined the Eberhardt School of Business in 1997, running IT systems and information services support for faculty, students and staff for nearly 21 years.

In 2018, Nevis advanced her career, becoming identity and access manager for 91成人导航 Technology, the role she holds today.

Robert Ramirez, Business Operations

Ramirez, also known as Tiger, has been with the university since 1984. He is known as an ambassador to the university and asset to the Facilities Department.

35 years of service

Wendy Cornwall, Athletics

Beginning her career at 91成人导航 in 1991 after earning her bachelor's degree from 91成人导航 in 1988, Cornwall has held a variety of impactful roles. She is currently serving as the director of compliance for 91成人导航 Athletics.

Julie Wendland, Development

Wendland has been a stalwart of the 91成人导航 Athletics Department. Serving as the accounts manager for the 91成人导航 Athletic Foundation, she oversees all donations and accounting for the foundation. She has supported countless events over the years, including the Orange and Black Ball.

Jimmy Shipes, Business Operations

Shipes has been with the university since 1989 and always helps whenever he is asked. He is a swimming pool technician for the university.
