From COVID frontlines to future pharmacist, scholarships empower first-generation student

First-generation doctor of pharmacy student Jamie Trocke 鈥25 has been deeply impacted by the support of the 91成人导航 community.

鈥淢y journey to 91成人导航 started after graduating from University of California, San Diego with a bachelor of science in pharmaceutical chemistry. After completing my undergraduate degree, I decided to obtain my pharmacy technician license and worked my way up to becoming a pharmacy operations manager at Walgreens. While I was working as a pharmacy technician, the COVID-19 pandemic began, causing a greater demand for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. I was fortunate enough to earn my vaccination certification, which allowed me to vaccinate thousands of patients in the pharmacy and at clinics. As a pharmacy technician, I was able to witness the impact pharmacists have as health care providers.鈥

PharmD student Jamie Trocke

鈥淎t 91成人导航, I want to contribute to my community and expand my knowledge so I can become a pharmacist who can positively impact patients鈥 lives and promote pharmacy practice. I volunteered at Cl铆nica Tepati, a free-clinic in Sacramento aimed at serving the uninsured Hispanic community, where I conducted medication reconciliation, patient interviews and medication consultations for acute and chronic conditions. As vice president of Phi Lambda Sigma, I promoted collaboration and awareness among pharmacy student leaders to highlight leadership in the pharmacy community, while generating innovative fundraising and leadership ideas. In my role as project manager of Operation Immunization, I not only vaccinated community members but also helped coordinate resources and manage the operations of the vaccine clinics. Through the Medicare Part D Outreach Clinics, I conducted medication therapy management consultations and performed comprehensive Part D reviews at health care events in seven different cities.

Receiving scholarships has profoundly impacted my education. Beyond the financial support, the encouragement it brings has been equally transformative. Being awarded scholarships is a powerful affirmation of my hard work, dedication and potential. It reassures me that others believe in my abilities and are willing to invest in my future. This validation fuels my motivation to excel academically and strive for excellence in all my endeavors. These scholarships have empowered me with the confidence and determination to pursue my dreams and make a meaningful impact in my field.鈥
