The Dugoni School of Dentistry continued its tradition of hosting a special weekend gathering in 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Grove for soon-to-be graduates with its 57th Annual Asilomar Retreat. Held Feb. 21–23, this year’s gathering brought together students graduating in 2025 from the DDS, IDS, Orthodontic Residency, and Dental Hygiene programs, along with faculty, staff, and administrators at the beautiful Asilomar conference center and hotel.
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with warm welcomes from Dean Nader Nadershahi; Alumni Association President Wesley Wong ’98; and Dugoni School Foundation President John Kim ’04. Attendees watched a video tribute celebrating Dean Nadershahi's years of dedicated service to the school. Class leaders then showcased memorable moments through class videos that highlighted their journey at the Dugoni School, followed by a lively karaoke session where students showcased their talents and won prizes.
On Saturday, the retreat featured a keynote address by Dugoni School alumnus Dr. Sam Thacher ’99. Dr. Thacher discussed his time in dental school; his successful practice in San Francisco; and his role as the team dentist for the San Francisco Giants. His tales from the world of sports dentistry and advice for new graduates resonated with the audience, inspiring the next generation of dental professionals.
The afternoon offered attendees the chance to explore the stunning surroundings of 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Grove, Monterey and Carmel. The day concluded with a dinner at the conference center, followed by a casino-themed social event with games, prizes and refreshments.
