The听Capital Lawyering Concentration听is a students can pursue while they earn their JD. Capital Lawyering Concentration students also have opportunities to attend exclusive Capital Center events and networking opportunities.

Capital Lawyering Concentration courses are taught by some of the most respected lawyers, lobbyists, and political consultants in the capital arena. These courses prepare Capital Lawyering students for careers by giving them the practical skills necessary to succeed as staff to a legislator or committee in the California Legislature; in lobbying firms; in non-profits and unions engaged in public policy advocacy; in local, state, and federal agencies; and in law firms practicing election and political law.

Capital Lawyering students get hands-on experience through McGeorge鈥檚 one-of-a-kind Legislative and Public Policy Clinic. In the Clinic, students have the opportunity to shape California law while still in school. Students work with clients to draft legislation and lobby it through the California Legislature. Clinic students have successfully changed laws to expand protections for domestic violence survivors, ban powdered alcohol, enact harsher penalties for the distribution of revenge porn, and changed eyewitness testimony laws.

How to Apply

Interested students should complete the , which includes your resume and a brief Personal Statement (minimum 200 words). Please submit your application as early as possible in your McGeorge career to best plan your course of study. In no case may applications be submitted or accepted after the Add/Drop Deadline of your final law school term. Students must schedule an appointment with the Capital Lawyering Concentration Director to plan their required curriculum and activities.
