The event is co-sponsored by McGeorge's Capital Center for Law & Policy, the Capital Lawyering Association for Students (CLAS), and the Public Policy and Administration Society (PPAS).听

SPEAKER INFORMATION
Assemblymember Matt Haney proudly represents California State Assembly鈥檚 17th District spanning across the eastern side of San Francisco. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he is a long-time resident and renter in San Francisco鈥檚 Tenderloin District.
As a dedicated public servant, Assemblymember Haney fights for policies that improve everyday lives of Californians statewide. In his first term in the State Legislature, successfully authored 12 bills sent to the governor's desk and signed into law. His legislation addresses the State鈥檚 most pressing issues, such as the housing crisis and the opioid crisis in California.
In his first term in the State Legislature, Assemblymember Haney successfully sent 12 bills to the governor's desk to be signed into law that addressed some of the most pressing issues in the State of California, including the opioid crisis, housing and homelessness, a recovery of downtown neighborhoods to become thriving city centers, among others.
In the California State Assembly, he serves as the Assembly鈥檚 Majority Whip and the Chair of the Fentanyl, Opioid Addiction and Overdose Protection select committee; Chair and the Downtown Recovery select committees; Chair of the Renter鈥檚 Caucus; the Co-Chair of the Irish Caucus; and a member on the Local Government, Government Organization, Health, Judiciary, and Appropriations committees.
Prior to his election to the State Assembly in 2022, he served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2018-2022 and the San Francisco Board of Education from 2013-2018, when he served as past President and Vice President. Assemblymember Haney attended public schools in the Bay Area and holds a BA in Urban Development from UC Berkeley, an MA from Stanford University School of Education, a JD from Stanford Law School, and an LLM in Human Rights from National University of Ireland.
