Serve in the community

In partnership with California Volunteers (Office of the Governor) and AmeriCorps, 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ is proud to sponsor a #CaliforniansForAll College Corps program that launched in fall of 2022.

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ is one of only four private institutions in the state to receive this honor, a testament to our strong legacy of student engagement in the community and the creation of service-learning programs that foster deep student learning and have a significant positive impact on our region. 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½â€™s College Corps will create pathways for 100 students to earn credit and receive up to $10,000 in funding in exchange for a commitment to serve 450 hours in a community service assignment during a full academic year.

Conduct local community-based service in one of three critical focus areas:

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½â€™s commitment to positively impact K-12 education in Stockton and the San Joaquin Valley is deep and carried out through our academic programs in education, long-standing tutoring contracts with the Stockton Unified School District, and our Beyond our Gates program established in 2010 to improve literacy and educational outcomes.

Although the state's fertile Central Valley produces a quarter of the nation's food, studies consistently find some of the highest hunger and food insecurity rates among the region's poor and working poor. Locally, 75% percent of Stockton Unified School District students are eligible to receive free or reduced-price school meals and 62% received Medicaid/Medi-Cal benefits. We look forward to creating new partnerships in this focus area.

The effects of climate change in the San Joaquin Valley—poor water and air quality are among the greatest concerns—must prompt citizen action according to a recent report by the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Community Engagement

91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ has a long and distinguished history as an institution that provides meaningful community service and community engagement opportunities for our students in all three counties we serve—San Francisco, San Joaquin and Sacramento.  Long-standing outreach efforts by our Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, and the School of Health Sciences have expanded access to critical services and information, especially for vulnerable populations. Most recently, 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ was a leading vaccine distribution site in all three county locations.Â
