Add to Calendar 2025-02-13 12:00:00 2025-02-13 13:00:00 Playing Politics: Social Media, Censorship, and Speech Gamification with Professor Khaled Beydoun At 12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb 13, 2025, in the Grand Salon, Khaled Beydoun, Professor of Law at Arizona State, will give a talk about his in-progress article, “Playing Politics: Social Media, Censorship, and Speech Gamification.” The article focuses on Meta’s content moderation policies and political opportunism and the perils they pose to modern speech and citizenship. Lunch will be provided. Professor Beydoun is the author of the critically acclaimed books American Islamaphobia: Understanding the Roots and Rise of Fear & The New Crusades: Islamophobia and the Global War on Muslims. He is a leading scholar on constitutional law, civil rights, and critical race theory, who has served on the US Commission for Civil Rights. He appears frequently in The New York Times and The Washington Post, as well as on CNN, The BBC, and ESPN. Professor Beydoun is widely regarded as one of the leading experts on identity matters tied to Arab, Middle Eastern, and Muslim identity in the world. Assemblymember Matt Haney proudly represents California State Assembly’s 17th District spanning across the eastern side of San Francisco. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he is a long-time resident and renter in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.

As a dedicated public servant, Assemblymember Haney fights for policies that improve everyday lives of Californians statewide. In his first term in the State Legislature, successfully authored 12 bills sent to the governor's desk and signed into law.
