Professors Omar Dajani and Aslı Ãœ. Bâli will discuss "Self-determination Beyond the Nation-State" as part of the 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ McGeorge School of Law’s Centennial Celebration Speaker Series on November 19, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. PT. The speakers will be tuning in via Zoom, and the law school will be hosting a viewing event with appetizers and refreshments in the Grand Salon.
Talk preview: Is there a progressive alternative to nationalism? In this talk, Professors Aslı Bâli and Omar Dajani will discuss two political initiatives in the Middle East that creatively reimagine the relationship between nation, state, and territory.
Dajani is the Carol Olson Endowed Professor of International Law at McGeorge School of Law, Co-Director of McGeorge Global Center for Business and Development, and Co-Director of International Certificate of Concentration. Bâli is a Professor of Law at Yale Law School and the co-chair of the Advisory Board for the Middle East Division of Human Rights Watch.
Throughout 2024, guest speakers from law schools across the country – including legal experts like Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean Danielle Conway, Professor Susan Kuo, Professor William Eskridge Jr., Professor Cheryl Wade, Professor Aya Gruber, and more – will share their insights in an array of legal topics.Â
